Gwangju is the sixth largest city in South Korea. Change things up with these side-trips from Gwangju: Unjusa (in Hwasun-gun) and Suncheon (Seonamsa Temple & Songgwangsa Temple). In May, daily temperatures in Gwangju can reach 11°C, while at night they dip to 11°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 10th (Sun) to allow time to drive to Busan.

The country's second city, Busan has often been referred to as South Korea's summer capital.
Go for a jaunt from Busan to Geoje to see Oedo Botania about 1h 45 min away. There's much more to do: get outside with Haeundae Beach, stroll around Yongdusan Park, enjoy the sand and surf at Gwangalli Beach, and browse the eclectic array of goods at Jagalchi Market.

You can drive from Gwangju to Busan in 3 hours. Alternatively, you can take a bus; or fly. When traveling from Gwangju in May, plan for much hotter days in Busan, with highs around 28°C, while nights are somewhat warmer with lows around 16°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 14th (Thu) so you can go by car to Gyeongju.

Expect little chillier weather when traveling from Busan in May: highs in Gyeongju hover around 18°C, while lows dip to 18°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 17th (Sun) so you can take a bus to Andong.

The capital of the country's northernmost province, the city of Chuncheon acts a gateway to the wilder sights of the rural region.
Kick off your visit on the 24th (Sun): examine the collection at Gangwondo Forest Museum, make a trip to Gongjicheon Recreation Area, and then head off the coast to Nami Island.
