The country's second city, Busan has often been referred to as South Korea's summer capital.
Visit Haedong Yonggung Temple and Beomeosa Temple for their historical value. Gamcheon Culture Village and Bokcheon Museum are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Change things up with these side-trips from Busan: Oedo Botania (in Geoje) and Yeojwacheon Stream (in Changwon). There's much more to do: kick back and relax at Haeundae Beach, take your sightseeing to a higher altitude at Bongnaesan, head outdoors with Songjeong Beach, and look for gifts at Gamcheon Cultural Village Art Shop.

You'll lose 15 hours traveling from Nashville to Busan due to the time zone difference. One of the most popular tourist destinations in the Republic of Korea, Gyeongju combines a rich cultural heritage with mountain and coastal scenery.
Escape the urban bustle at Juwangsan National Park and Gyeongju Bird Park. Gyeongju National Museum and Ulsan Daegok Museum will appeal to museum buffs. Gwangju is the sixth largest city in South Korea. Get a sense of the local culture at Hwaeomsa Temple and Buyeo National Museum. Get outdoors at Mudeungsan National Park and Boseong Green Tea Field Daehan Dawon. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Gwangju: Gwanghallu Pavilion (in Namwon), Unjusa (in Hwasun-gun) and Busosanseong (in Buyeo-gun). It doesn't end there: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Mudeungsan Jeungsimsa Temple and appreciate the extensive heritage of Kim Bongho's House.

Getting from Jeju to Gwangju by flight takes about 2.5 hours. Other options: do a combination of flight and bus; or do a combination of ferry and taxi. In May, plan for daily highs up to 49°F, and evening lows to 49°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 21st (Thu) to allow time to drive to Sokcho.
