The Tran Family Home and Chapel, Hoi An

1.7
Admire a combination of high-class Chinese, Japanese and vernacular architectural styles at The Tran Family Home and Chapel, a historic ancestor worship house built by a 19th century ambassador to China. The house has a turtle-style roof and triple beams and bow-and-arrow details with many rooms with candles, lanterns, burning incense, and silk embroidery hanging from the walls. Built in 1802, the house features antique period furniture with decorated family altars and stone tablets dedicated to members of Vietnamese aristocracy. The central door is reserved for the dead. • This is a guided tour. The first half of it was very nice and interesting. In the second half the guide is just trying to sell you some souvenirs in the back rooms of the chapel, which is very unprofessional considering that this is an official sight in the old town.
  • Small family chapel for family ancestors. Visitors are briefed about the building architecture and the meaning of the Chapel, and significance of some antiques. Good insight into culture and meaning of family chapels in Vietnam
